It has been an hour
Since I have been
Mindlessly scrolling,
Hurriedly swiping away
One grey photo after another
When I am suddenly hit
With a realisation
That brings me to my knees-
There are only a few photos
In my phone’s camera roll
In which my own face
Can be fully seen,
They feel so out of place,
But I better not press delete,
For there are times when I
Forget that I am here
And I can use a proof
Of my existence-
Even a virtual one would do.

Interesting poem. I never leave photos on my iPhone, they are all moved to the cloud for storage.

You are welcome! An external SSD (solid state drive) doesn’t cost much, all you need are the proper cables to connect it to your laptop if that is what you use.

I can really identify with this poem, Aaysid. I spend far too long mindlessly scrolling through my phone, too. Like you, I have very few photos of myself on there. The ones I do have, I don’t like very much and I do delete quite a lot of the ones that I find. I’m very self-critical. As for forgetting that I exist, I think, for me, that would be welcome at the moment, mainly because I’m having such a tough time lately. However, I know it won’t always be this way. Anyway, I love your poem and I am glad we’ve ‘met’ through WP. I’m looking forward to reading more of your work. Take care … Ellie x
